Maton CW80D Left Handed Acoustic Electric with cutaway

1986 Maton CW80D/6 left handed acoustic electric.

A very, very uncommon model from the peak of classic Maton manufacturing, this CW80D sounds like an absolute cannon. Big and bold, with huge bass, balanced mids and treble that isn’t plagued by thin, plinky attack. It’s got the original Maton pickup and preamp which sounds excellent and translates the tone for live playing.

It’s got the same lacquer pitting that happens on many Maton acoustics of the era with maple back and sides, but it’s stable and not peeling off in any major way. There’s some binding separation in the cutaway on the rear. But it’s stable and not moving. What looks like a small crack on the side near the tail block appears to be just a crack in the lacquer, inspecting inside the body shows no evidence of separation and it doesn’t move when flexed. The top has some scratches including one main one near the upper waist, but nothing beyond aesthetic damage.

The frets are so lightly used I’ve rarely seen so on guitars of this age. Neck is straight and true and isn’t in need of a neck reset. It’s currently setup with quite a low action, perfect for fast playing and your greatest Tommy Emanuel impressions.
